This look consists of three pieces: the Cityscape Slip Dress made of recycled double-sided poly satin, underneath is the Hygeia Hazmat Jumpsuit made of recycled poly chiffon, and to complete the look is the Asklepios Face Mask made of organic cotton sateen.
And the look is called “Hygeia”, after the name of the greek goddess of health, for my upcoming “Outside the Box” collection inspired by the pandemic which puts everyone in a literal box (quarantine, self-isolation, social distancing etc.) in terms of daily life. I use 2D box shapes to create zero-waste, exploding silhouettes to represent that we’ve all become limited in aspects of daily life we’ve been accustomed to, and now other parts of our lives have the possibility of flourishing due to the change in lifestyle as the virus, unfortunately, explodes in different areas around the world- the same way that limiting travel/shelter-in-place cut gas emissions to an extent. And for those who have professions that are essential and/or do not have economic means to work remotely- the lack of humanity in terms of their pay/protection has been shown a light and hopefully will change for the better. The off-white, base color for the collection is called “Silence” which is what this virus did to many of the loud, bustling cities of the world. And the rest of the colors chosen are to represent a hopeful outlook on a situation that feels hopeless at times.
